Rooster Rehoming Questions
For a lot of us, finding the right roo or finding the right home for your roo can be a challenge. To help with this, we’ve created a section just for rehoming roosters. Like all listings, all MadHatchers users can see (and search) listings, encouraging thoughtful adoption.
We highly encourage that everyone considers the humane treatment of all animals in these exchanges, so we've compiled a list of questions you can ask the new prospective home. Additionally, the MadHatchers team has compiled a list of questions for the rooster’s new home (adopter) to ask the current rooster owner. Overall, we aim to provide assistance and guidance for those who will be engaging in rehoming activities.
Why post my roo on MadHatchers?
Increase Your Audience
adding another set of eyes and ears to spread the word about your roo only helps. While a lot of our users are active on many forums and online communities, we may have an audience in our system that hasn’t seen your post yet. We’re here to help spread the word.
Ease of Use
The system provides a detailed view of your rooster that needs rehoming. Each rooster being rehomed gets their own page! Just share your rooster’s unique page URL, and you can easily share the word and all the details about your rooster.
We recommend you continue to use various sites and resources to rehome your roo. The MadHatchers Rehoming Program simply adds more visibility to your Rehome needs. There is no guarantee that we will be able to match your rooster with a home, but we are here to help try!
Dedicated Support
MadHatchers has a dedicated community team that provides outreach support for poultry-related needs. Our team actively matches what’s in need within our community and sources for solutions. They reach out to you to give recommendations and provide leads!
Important questions to ask when you’re trying to rehome a rooster:
What type of environment will it be in with its new home?
Describe your purpose for the Roo adoption (breeding, pet, meat, or other)?
What is your experience with chickens and more specifically with roosters?
Will this rooster be used for meat?
Do you have children? Will this rooster be in a place where it could interact with children? What precautions do you have to safely integrate it with kids that are interacting with chickens?
📷 Photos of your rooster are important to provide so interested adopters know what he looks like — size, coloring, etc.
Answering some of the questions below in your posting will help filter the right new home to come forward, as you’re defining the best environment for your roo.
Important questions to ask the original home (as the adopter):
Any known illness in the past year?
Any special care or diet we should be aware of?
Is it okay to use this rooster for meat?
Is the rooster friendly? Can you describe its personality?
Does it get along with other chickens?
How does it do with hens?
Does it get along with kids?
Has he ever had any fighting incidents with people?
